3.1.2 sounds like a good compromise.  I personally don't have a
strong feeling about getting it into 3.1.1; if it's crucial for
a particular system, then it's surely worth adding as a local patch.
There aren't any interdependencies with other patches, so it doesn't
seem like a problem to maintain locally until 3.1.2 comes out (I'm
a little jaded perhaps, since Apple's GCC has thousands of local
changes to maintain... :-) ).
