The test fails for same reason on other simulated targets it
seems.

Thanks! I thought files were central to the test. Do I need to
mention my blissful fortran ignorance again?

Question of the day: Should the testsuite be subject to the same
strict rules as the "real" code? Of course it's right to go
with that at the moment, but I think changes that work in the
direction of increasing exposure of bugs should really be ok;
testsuite changes don't risk the stability of the compiler.
For example, this particular change would let the test run on
more targets.
