There's no way this sort of change can go on the 3.0 branch now, but it's
a clearly desirable feature that's been on the list of open projects for
some time. Can you produce a version of this patch for the mainline (and
the 3.1 branch, if the release manager thinks it's a plausible feature for
there)? The patch also needs to add documentation in gcc/doc/install.texi
so users know about this feature. A copyright assignment - see
http://gcc.gnu.org/contribute.html - will also be needed for a change of
this size; ask gcc@gcc.gnu.org and assignments@gnu.org for the form.
