Because that "short period" is *at minimum* until gcc 3.1
is released in six months.
Because it doesn't "muck up" the Makefile at all. I think
Zack's patch is really very clean -- one makefile variable
for the bootstrap Ada compiler, one makefile variable for
flags to pass to that compiler. Have you even really looked
at it?
