A similar patch allowed me to build libffi on both alpha-dec-osf4.0f and
alpha-dec-osf5.1. I hadn't submitted it the way it was until I realized
that gas can handle both imb and call_pal mnemonics, so it's save with
either assembler.
Could you add a comment explaining the 0x86 (it's PAL_imb in <alpha/pal.h)?
Building libjava failed later on, in different ways, on V4.0F and V5.1.
I'll report this separately.
