Regardless of autoconf 2.49d snapshot, I think a branch is not going
to be necessary.
The first step to get GCC's configure.in to work with CVS autoconf is
probably going to be fixing lack-of-quoting problems here and there.
That's going to be the major stumbling block for all projects that
move to autoconf 2.50: it's significantly more sensitive about quoting
errors.
