This is ground control, we read you loud and clear!
I haven't commented yet because I'm not remotely familiar with the
internals of the cp compiler. However I'll give your patch a go over the
weekend (against my 2.95.3 tree) and let you know if I spot any regressions
and what it does to the size of my executables.
