Unsure.  It actually doesn't have any externally visible bad effects on my
PAs, but I got the impression from Kaveh or someone else that it did have a
bad effect on alpha-dec-someosfversion

Ah.  I had kinda assumed you'd take care of it, you were waiting for an
approval.  Deadlock :(

I think it's the right thing to do -- if nothing else than to prevent
these errors from confusing the configure process.

If you've still got the patch handy, I recommend installing it.  If you don't
have it handy, let me know and I'll dig it out of the archives.
