gcc-4.1.2 build fails on (my) x86_64 Linux

While having gcc version 4.3.3 installed, for some reasons I need also
gcc-4.1.2 on my machine
(Linux 2.6.28-18-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 28 01:40:19 UTC 2010
x86_64 GNU/Linux).

Therefore, I tried to build the gcc-4.1.2 source. However, the build fails.

For the configure output, see the corresponding attachment.
The host system type is x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu. As far as I
understand from the buildstat list,
it has been reported success in compiling gcc-4.1.2 on this system type.

For the make output, see again the corresponding attachment.
ld returns an error. Is make trying to compile in 32bit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
