- Subject: 4.2.0 build on alpha-OSF1-V4 problem
Has anyone been able to build gcc-4.2.0 on an alpha-OSF1-V4?
I am doing
configure --enable-languages=c --with-gmp=[path-to-gmp]
--with-mpfr=[path-to-mpfr]
make bootstrap
but I get
virtual memory exhausted: Not enough space
This is on a machine with 256MB of memory.
I have tried the suggestions in host/target specific installation notes
for alpha*-dec-osf* where this issue is discussed:
1. --with-gc=simple : does not seem to exist in gcc-4.2.0
2. reconfiguring Kernel Virtual Memory and Swap parameters per the
/usr/sbin/sys_check Tuning Suggestions : do not understand this
suggestion
3 applying the patch in http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/2002-08/msg00822.html -
this suggest changing in gcc/ggc-page.c GGC_QUIRE_SIZE to 1. :
when I do this I get a different error.
Am I the last person to have this architecture? I know the machine
is very old ... but we still have one.
Any help gratefully received.
