gcc-4.2 build dies in autoconf

autoconf-2.5x: no input file
The snapshots have been doing this for about a month. I saw it also when
I tried x86-64 linux. I must have missed a change in build
instructions; I didn't think autoconf was needed before.
Today's snapshot also demanded autogen, which I was able to install
after rebuilding guile from source.
