libstdc++.so.2.10.0: open failed: no such file or directory

hi
i am working on sun sloaris 8 and making a shared object, using libstdc++.so.2.10.0 while linking in the makefile. but when i upload it to the server i get the error "libstdc++.so.2.10.0: open failed: no such file or directory". I found that in the server it is libstdc++2.8.1.1 so i transferred it to my local machine and tried to link but while linking it is giving error that it cant find libstdc++2.8.1.1, though it is in /usr/local/lib and LD_LIBRARY_PATH is also set. I am novice in this so just want to know that libstdc++2.8.1.1 has to be configured or not if yes then how? Pls help.

regards,
Abhijit.
