hmmm that's weird?

i updateded to GCC-3.2.3 from GCC-2.96(redhat's thing). The weird thing
is when i type
&>gcc -v

as a user i get:

Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.2.3/specs
Configured with: ../gcc-3.2.3/configure
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.2.3

when i do it as root i get

$>gcc -v

i get:

Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/2.96/specs
gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-113)

And make install seames not to be working? I'm lost, and need some help.
Thanks to anyone for anything they can give me. zippo
