-rdynamic?

Hello,

while browsing the libc documentation I found the backtrace() family of
functions. In the documentation it says that to get the function names I
have to compile my program with the '-rdynamic' option.

I searched the documentation of gcc and ld and haven't found any
documentation on this option.

So I would like to know if someone can tell me what this option does
(besides making the function names available for the backtrace()
functions)?

Thanks,
