Compile Help!

Subject: Compile Help!

Hi

Every time i try and compile source code using ./configure. when it gets to 
checking gcc i get an error saying : 

:installation or configuration problem : C compiler cannot create executables

i have  version 3.2 and am running slackware 8.1

Any idea's how to solve this ?
