- Subject: Installing g77 on Linux
Hi,
I have downloaded the gcc-suite but I cannot convert the "*.texi" files
to html; the process always fails. Do not get me wrong: but has that as
specific meaning why the installation nightmare just starts at the not
available Readme?
On my SuSE Linux 8.0 system I actually have installed g++ and gcc; but I
want augment the collection with the g77 compiler. The Fortran 77 folder
in the gcc compiler collection is not very helpful (no Readme).
What I want is to make the g77 compiler but I am not sure whether I have
to make also the gcc compiler or is it enough to have an actual version
of g++ and gcc installed? I have got the SuSE 8.0 personal edition
installed; that means most of the programs are not featured for
development (for example I had a hard time to compile the Python
idle-environment because I do not have got any Tcl/Tk header files,
though I do have a running Tcl/Tk installation; eventually a precompiled
ActivePython installation cured the situation).
Is there a dummy explanation available how to install the g77 compiler?
I do not want to install all the other programs (Ada, Java,...). Is that
possible?. Please: should the installation take 1 week (as it is true
for 10% of all Linux programs; the rest of 90% is not installable,
even) let me know, I will then resort to my Mingw Windows installation.
Sorry for polluting this list, but the search option (at the mailinglist
archive) does not work for me (maybe due to Mozilla).
Thanks for any hints,
Siegfried Gonzi
