about egcs

Someone told me that egcs can compile 64-bit objects.
So I download egcs-1.1.2.tar.gz and compile it with
gcc-2.95.3 on solaris 7.
But when it completed, the /usr/local/egcs/bin/gcc
also can't use "-m64" option.
I want to compile 64-bit code on solaris 7.
