errors

I download and installed gcc-2.95.2-sol8-intel-local for Solaris8 from
sunfreeware.com. It installed without errors.
I set my PATH in /etc/profile to:
PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:$PATH:/usr/bin
and rebooted
I then tried to install qpopper (pop mail server) and got the following
error:
# ./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler
cannot create executables.
Does anyone know why?
