The comment in http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2007-02/msg01262.html
was the reason why Richi suggested that we try this anyway.
(Unfortunately, I have not looked into this thoroughly enough to judge
for myself... yet, hopefully, sort of).
