I think something has to be updated / extended on the target-specific bits for
darwin when i686-apple-darwin9 is involved, because the "normal" (meaning,
default) one is absolutely fine for me (to wit, i386-apple-darwin-9.4.0, just
booted and tested). Did this i686-apple-darwin9 config ever worked for you? In
any case, please add in CC a darwin maintainer, because it's unlikely that we
can fix this issue without, sorry, ...
