I certainly agree that it would be good to fix this for 4.0.1 and that 
the fix seems simple.  However, I don't understand yet whether there is 
still a problem, given Joseph's comment.  I'm on the CC: list for this 
PR, so please direct further comments there; I'll pay attention.
