floating point exception problem on x86


I seem to have a problem with floating point exceptions with gcc on
x86 machines.  It works fine on other machines, including IA64, HP,
and Alpha.  I don't know if this is a gcc problem or a glibc problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The program sets up a SIGFPE handler which does a longjmp back into
the code.  It enables FPE traps for INVALID, DIVBYZERO, and OVERFLOW,
and then runs 6 passes where it causes a floating point overflow.
Here is the output:

	Pass 1:  Didn't trap, result is 4.85574e-270.
	Pass 2:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = FPE_FLTOVF.
	Pass 3:  Didn't trap, result is 4.85574e-270.
	Pass 4:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = FPE_FLTOVF.
	Pass 5:  Didn't trap, result is 4.85574e-270.
	Pass 6:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = FPE_FLTOVF.

For some reason, it's only trapping every other time.  On all other
machines I've tried, it traps every one.

For what it's worth, the behavior changes if I also enable trapping on
INEXACT.  Here's the output in that case:

	Pass 1:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = 0.
	Pass 2:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = 0.
	Pass 3:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = 0.
	Pass 4:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = 0.
	Pass 5:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = 0.
	Pass 6:  Trapped SIGFPE, si_code = 0.

It traps every time, but the si_code passed is not valid.

I'm running this on a 600 MHz Intel Pentium III (Katmai), stepping 03.
My OS is GNU/Linux 2.4.20, from the RedHat 9 distribution.  The result
of a "uname -a" is

	Linux shaker 2.4.20-19.9 #1 Tue Jul 15 17:18:13 EDT 2003 i686
	i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Here is output from gcc -v:
