Thank you for the response. I am using gas version:
GNU assembler version 2.7 (i386-sequent-sysv4), using BFD version 2.7
You are runing with version 2.13+ -- so I probably need to run with a
later version, correct?
I'll start looking at downloading and installing a later version of gas.

Hello,
I cannot reproduce this problem with a gcc 3.3 cross compiler to
i386-sysv4. What version of gas
do you have? With 2.13.2.1, libgcc2.c builds and assembles fine for me.
