gcc 3.3 configure bug?

While installing gcc 3.3 on Solaris 2.8, I noticed the following ouptut
during "configure":

checking linker read-only and read-write section mixing... grep: illegal option -- A
   grep: illegal option -- 1
Usage: grep -hblcnsviw pattern file . . .

Is this output really the result of an intentional use of grep? Or did someone get
an option wrong?
