char buf[3], char buf[5], ... char buf[7] allocate 24 bytes
pushl   %ebp
        movl    %esp, %ebp
        subl    $24, %esp

char buf[8] alloocate 8 bytes:
pushl   %ebp
        movl    %esp, %ebp
        subl    $8, %esp

I compile program with option -S.
