Linux - Gentoo Linux, building system from scratch
>Description:
When I attempt to compile gcc-3.2.1-r6 (I think its r6)
with the gcc included in the gentoo linux 1.4rc2 cd image, I get random segfaults.
one error message was

Toplev.c : 4377
Internal Error: Segmentation fault
followed by instructions to file a bug...

the same problem happens whenever I try to compile anything large i.e. kde or qt or even groff.
it happens randomly but commonly and I have tried to build gcc twice but no avail.

My system has passed a cpu torture test using "prime95" and did not give any errors.
Prime95 (a windoze program) was left running for approx 11 hours.
it also passed a test with "memtest86", a ram testing program, wich i also left running for approx 11 hours.
no errors were reported by either program.

this leads me to beleive its a software bug rather than a hardware bug.

my system is a AMD Athlon XP 1700, running at aprox 1400mhz...(not overclocked)
it has two sticks of ram, one 128mb, the other 256mb.

it has a msi ms-6378 motherboard.

the error occurs with or without CFLAGS set.

Regards,

Robbie Cahill
>How-To-Repeat:
attempt to compile any large program (gcc 3.2.1 or qt are good ones) on a system with a non-overclocked athlon xp 1700, one stick of 128mb sdram and another of 256mb sdram, and with as similar configuration to my system as possible
