This was one possible symptom of using buggy Sun ld in Solaris 7. As I
recall it would silently drop some of the static initalizers in libgcj.
The poster reports using Solaris 8 however, so ld may not be the issue.
There are likely to be other problems, as I doubt if 2.95 had much testing
(if any) on Solaris 8.
