Using the testcase from the PR, the problem is not reproducable with
GNU C version 2.96 20000402 (experimental) (hppa1.1-hp-hpux11.00)
GNU C version 3.0 20010430 (prerelease) (hppa1.1-hp-hpux11.00)
GNU C version 3.0 20010423 (prerelease) (hppa2.0-hp-hpux10.20)
It remains repeatable with
GNU C version 2.95.3 20010315 (release) (hppa2.0-hp-hpux10.20)
