Re: ia64 libjava java-signal.h build failure
Alexandre --
As I indicated, I don't want to waste everyone's time by debating
this further.
I am happy to clarify what I've asked for if it wasn't clear.
You certainly can (and probably should) add a configure-time option
to control whether or not libgcj is built or not.
If building on IRIX or AIX takes a week, you either have very slow
boxes, or we have a severe problem. That's unnacceptably slow. I've
seen about 12 hours for both platforms -- but without Java enabled.
If enabling Java is responsible for that dilation, that's a compelling
reason not to enable it. If it's just slow boxes, then please appeal
to the lists; I am sure that someone will be willing to run the tests
for you on a faster AIX box.
We have lost access to our AIX box, but I am sure that Jeffrey
Oldham will run IRIX tests for you. He doesn't have time to debug
anything, but if you send a patch, and the configure options you want
used, he will run the experiment for you.
I don't mind at all being overruled by the SC. That's it's
function; I'm very clear on (and happy with) the idea that the SC is
my boss. So, you definitely won't hurt my feelings by raising issues
there, and if they agree with you, you have my word that I'll happily
implement whatever they ask, without taking any offense.
Yours,
