I never managed to build gcc with cygwin 1.1.8 - you need the latest
cygwin1.dll snapshot. Try the recipe
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-testresults/2001-03/msg00226.html - works for me.
You also need to know about the -lm problem with g77 testsuite, see the
discussion around http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2001-01/msg01151.html
