At this point, I have abandoned trying to compile the src and have installed
SCO Skunk Work's GCC 2.95.2 binary distribution (RPM-like package for SCO).
This has solved the urgency of my dilemma, and is working. In addition, I
found binary equivalents for all of the GNU packages I was trying to
compile! Woohoo! Thanks for everyones help, hope I didn't waste too much of
your time--I'm sure I hosed it up somehow. Maybe when I get time to
recompile for tuning purposes, I'll be able to pick back up from here.
Thanks again and thanks for fighting the good fight,
Matt
