Thanks for your bug report. While I could reproduce this with g++
2.95.2 (prerelease), the current mainline says
collect: recompiling a.cc
collect: relinking
collect: recompiling a.cc
collect: relinking
and comes up with an executable, so it appears the bug has been fixed.
