GCC STL probllem with <string> encountered

Using GCC 2.1.8 on Solaris 7 we encountered a problem with the <string> STL
component. Specificly, when assgning a string, or constructing a string from
another we observed extraneous characters appended to the end of the string.
The number and type of characters appended to the string varied depending on
previous usage of the object. We have been unable to identify the source
problem yet but are investigating it.
If anyone has encountered a similar problem please respond to my address
below, If we specificly identify a problem, I'll post the result.
