This could be possible. I finally managed to get 2.95.1 installed by
first installing gcc-2.8.1 (which worked) and then using 2.8.1 as my
bootstrap compiler. gcc-2.95.1 then compiled and installed clean.
At this point, I'm happy enough to let things lie. Thanks for your
