Fine by me, though I can't try it out on my test suite at the moment,
as I'm still working through trying to back up my development drive
onto CD-R, and would rather not change chunks of my file system
partway through.  ;-)

So, if you're feeling brave, apply it to the trunk, and let people try
it out.  I'll probably get to it later this week, though my type of
testing will be rather different from everyone else's (as usual),
generally not particularly labor-intensive on my part.
