This was done many years ago.
It sounds like gas-970915 has a bug in the irix5 nm support. gas-970915 is
probably a snapshot of the gas development tree from 970915. You shouldn't
normally be using gas snapshots. I'd suggest trying one of the official
gas releases instead. binutils-2.9.1.tar.gz is the most recent FSF release.
We've got a post 2.9.1 version of nm on our irix 5.3 machine here, and it works
fine.
