configure doesn't recognize Linux

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

When building the latest snapshot (gathered via cvs a few moments
ago), the configure script fails on a dual-pentium Linux machine,
complaining that it can't figure out what kind of system this would
be.

Installed on the machine is a SUSE Linux (6.0 I think) and the uname
- -a string is:

  Linux monster 2.2.1 #2 SMP Mon Feb 22 23:36:39 CET 1999 i686 unknown
