Would you submit your changes, in the form of context diffs, to
bastring.h to Jason Merrill <jason@cygnus.com>? I'm afraid that if
you don't, the changes won't make it into the compiler, since Jason's
very busy and, as a result, doesn't always see everything. It helps
to put "patch" somwhere in the subject line.
