You're not.
However, I believe the real solution to this problem is covered in
the file gcc/INSTALL.
Basically, if you're using gas on the HPPA (and possibly other machines)
you must arrange for gcc to find gas instead of the HP assembler.

What exactly is failing. I use/build/test on hpux daily.
