Hi,
The macports versions seem to work here, including 4.8. I did not try the binary versions.
However, the error you get seems to be related to the absence of the command-line developer tools.
In Mountain Lion, after having installed xCode, you have to get them via the xCode preference window (Download tab). At least, I had very similar problems because of this.
