Diego,
g77 has been unsupported since the first release of gcc-4.0...several
years. a group of volunteers have written, from the ground up, a fortran
compiler which supports the newer F90, F95, and F2003. As part of that
effort, gfortran also supports fortran IV and Fortran 77 (for the most part).
If you have F77 code that does not work with gfortran, then we consider
it a bug. Please help us by filing a bug report. In almost all cases,
if you file a bug report, it will be fixed. Eventually.
g77 was a program distributed under the gpl. This means that source is
available, so as a user you always have the ability to create a compiler
for your unique system. Go to gfortran.org, I have a page which shows
how to compile g77 from the gcc-3.4.6 sources. Last time I tried, it
was still possible to compile and run gcc on current linux distributions.
In either event, you can be up and running quickly. Either tell us,
specifically, why gfortran does not work, or go back to g77.
HTH,
bud
