I've received the FSF form and filled it in, but I've got to try to dig it up again to post back
(got a bit lost in all the junk during move...)
I think the first part of the patch (adding the tag) is done in a decent enough way, but, as I
mentioned, the bit with the compile option is probably too much of a hack.
Also, there's still all the current code that applies the compile option only for main - I could
leave it in, but it's rather redundant once the option acts per object file instead.
But I'll see if I can tidy up the compile option part of it; inparticular, I'll try to find a more
sensible way to go about it...
