libgfortranbegin.a is out of date

I downloaded gfortran and installed it on a brand new Mac OS X 10.4
Intel in /usr/local/. I have also installed the XTools and all the
bundled packages that came on the distribution cd.
I am getting the following errors
gfortran mad.f -o mad
/usr/bin/ld: table of contents for archive:
/usr/local/lib/gcc/i386-apple-darwin8.6.2/4.2.0/../../../
libgfortranbegin.a is out of date; rerun ranlib(1) (can't load from it)
/usr/bin/ld: table of contents for archive:
/usr/local/lib/gcc/i386-apple-darwin8.6.2/4.2.0/libgcc.a is out of
date; rerun ranlib(1) (can't load from it)
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
