How could SuSE and FC5 have a problem which just appeared this week in gcc-snapshots? Are the snapshots actually so out of date they can't be recommended?

As a matter of curiosity, what are the versions?
As to your, question, I do not know how to answer you. We are down from
a peak of >300 PRs to 186 in six months, so it is a bit tough for the
distributions to keep track of us! I expect that we will slow up and
that the distributions/snapshots will get correspondingly better.
