It makes no difference whatsoever - should I be changing the TREEery to benefit from it?

I think the patch is fine as it is.  Vectorization capabilities can be
investigated later

I agree, probably the changes should be generic and would affect user code as well because I see that you're mostly relying on the scalarizer.
