Hopefully wisened from the recent breakage in 4.1 due to the thread
safety patches, IMHO we should at least wait a few days before merging
from trunk.

As for what to do wrt the branches, FWIW IMHO after 4.1 is released we
do a 4.1 -> 4.0 backport of as much as possible, then put both 4.0 and
4.1 in regression fix mode only.

But anyway, this particular bikeshed discussion has come up many times
before, and we never seems to reach any consensus, so I propose that
we lock up our maintainers in a room and let them decide (and, beer
only after we see the white smoke).
