Yes, gfortran will be the Fortran compiler bundled with GCC
when 4.0.0 hits the streets.  gfortran replaces g77.  I haven't
seen the Release Notes for 4.0.0, but I'm hoping there is a
big disclaimer that gfortran is in heavy development and there
are several known issues.

Toon, are you the person who goes over the Fortran portion
of the Release Notes?
